Unleashing the Power of a Positive Mindset: Finding Inspiration in a Tale of Misfortune

In this fast-paced world around us, we are so consumed with fulfilling our responsibilities that we are not left with any time and energy to live our lives to the fullest. Nagging, complaining, anger, dissatisfaction, and tiredness have become our ways of living. Why do we live like that when it's within our reach to live a wonderful life to live to the fullest -all just with a positive mindset? Although it is difficult to look that way we realize only when we are struck by misfortune. Here is my inspirational story filled with insight into how we can live with a positive mindset in the middle of misfortune and rejoice every moment.

A Beautiful Life: Dreamed by Many Yet Incomplete

I am a wife of a loving husband, mother of 3 children; 2 school-going, working woman, living with in-laws, and have many relatives and a circle of friends. Wow, what a beautiful life many people dream of, many people even told me that I am cool and carry positive vibes; but I was not satisfied. Well, I was draining, time always ran out, incomplete tasks, unfulfilled dreams, time management issues, a busy life, anger, and sleep deprivation were all I was surrounded by. I was trying and struggling to find some peaceful time. I wanted some ''me time''. I wanted some meditation. I wanted some prayer time. I just needed 15-20 minutes to relax my mind every day.

Discovering Serenity in Morning Prayers

A day came when I found my 20 minutes in the morning. Yes, there I go. Before waking my kids and my husband for school and job respectively, I leaned before God. I prayed to Him about what was on my mind, to relax me, to guide me through, to achieve more, to live my life to the fullest, and to have a positive mindset. All I needed was a positive mindset. Wow, I felt relaxed. I woke everyone up, made breakfast, packed lunch boxes, got my kids ready for school, waved goodbye to my husband, and dropped the kids off at school. I enjoyed my moment with serenity while going ahead on my job. How amazing it is to treasure every moment yet we grin, we criticize, we devalue what life and health offer us.

Struck by Misfortune: A Test of Positive Mindset

With all the serenity that day, I was dropped like the routine on the opposite road. I crossed the busy road as usual. While crossing the second road I got hit by a bike and fell with my face touching the ground. Oh couple of thoughts ran across my mind, lying down I thought another vehicle would run over me. I tried to stand up immediately, and a crowd gathered around me. What happened? The biker did not stop. Some people came to help, some people came to snatch. I heard someone snatching my bag saying you go to emergency I am coming with your bag. I.. I could not move my right arm. It was all swollen and deformed. It was so painful. Regaining my strength, I held my bag with my left hand carried on my left shoulder and told to men around me that I could go to emergency by myself. How amazing are the people who don’t use you when you are struck by an adversary? Why some people can’t see how to help at this time rather than taking advantage of the afflicted person?

The Lifelines: Doctors, Nurses, and Positive Souls

I work in a charity-based hospital where I was heading after crossing the road when misfortune got me. There at the gate, the guards asked a lady to go with me. I went directly to emergency supporting my right arm with my left hand. There the counter officer did not take me in although I was an employee of that organization. I felt bad as I was alone and needed someone to help. Yet it was the positive mindset that made me understand that he was just doing his job. While waiting outside the emergency for a couple of minutes, a head nurse offered help to process my registration and asked the staff to take me to the Emergency ward. While reaching out to my contacts to inform them of the accident, it was stressful. I contacted my colleagues and my husband. Why in hard times you remember someone near to you, who you can trust with your condition, whom you can trust your life with? If you are that someone trust me you are worthy. Be available, reach out. If you can’t send help, send someone you trust.

Deep in pain, lying in bed, although my heart was somewhat relieved that at least now staff would attend and relieve my pain. Then I learned what are doctors and nurses to the patients. They are the lifelines, their attention and concern for the patients satisfy the very painful souls. As I was thinking about this, my manager came leaving her meetings and stood by my side soothing me till my husband arrived. Seeing his face, I was altogether relieved although my arm pained. My colleagues made sure that I had all the assistance needed. My brother accompanied and I was even more relieved. I am blessed with people who take care of me and nurture me, as my parents did. It’s a moment to reflect on how your confidence is boosted when your boss is by your side assuring you not to worry about work. When you are blessed with a wonderful husband to cheer you up amidst pain. When your parents raised your siblings so well that they can take care of you like them after they have completed their worldly journey.

Finding Blessings Amidst Adversity

After the painful activity of the X-ray, it was revealed that my 2 bones: radius and ulna were broken and could be fixed by inserting plates. I underwent surgery, returned home, took leave from the office, and stayed at home. The doctor prescribed heavy medication for pain and antibiotics. I was sad as I could not feed my baby due to medications but thankful to God for giving me life and that I am back with my kids holding them from the left side. Although I missed the fun with them how I used to hug them after I came from duty, and how I carried them on my back, I was happy to be alive and cherish moments with them without being unthankful.

Be the Inspiration with a Positive Mindset

It was at this difficult time that I realized how blessed I am to have family and friends who visited me and an aunt who supported me voluntarily to take care of my 4.5-month-old baby 24/7. This is the time to know who stands with you and can offer what services. So never miss an opportunity to stand for the afflicted and be the change.

I am writing this inspirational story with my non-dominant hand to share with you so you can cherish every moment with family and friends while in good health. Don’t waste your life blaming, nagging, being afraid, politics, etc. Life is given to you for far more joy, happiness and purpose so live it to the fullest with a positive mindset even in the middle of crisis and misfortune.
